His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche gave a talk on His Holiness the Dalai Lamas Vision and Secular Ethics to the students and faculties of the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education. In his opening remark, Rinpoche expressed his happiness and contentment in visiting the institute on a prolonged series of academic engagements.
Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche in his speech briefed on the philosophical foundations of the Dalai Lamas vision and the genesis of the secular ethics. Rinpoche voiced his concern on the technological advancement in post modern civilization anchored with greed, competition and dominated by criteria of division and conflict as the root cause for degrading human values. Rinpoche also gave a comparative critical analysis on traditional and modern society and stressed on the necessity of not just physical hygiene but psychological hygiene as a remedy for eliminating the ills of post modern civilization.
Rinpoche also expressed his grief on how humans have evolved from being a user to a consumer, threating the very foundations of our existence and pressed on the significance of the call for a revolution anchored with love, compassion and coexistence by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
In his concluding remarks, Rinpoche highlighted on the terminological complexities and challenges of its subjective applications in different societies. He gave a profound background to the inception of Social Ethical and Emotional Learning as a concept equivalent to secular ethics to meet the interests of people in the west and Universal Ethics in India. He cemented his allegiance to the concept of oneness of humanity by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for a more peaceful world.
The Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education is ecstatic to receive His Eminence Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche on a three day official visit to the institute. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche will engage in a series of events during his stay at the institute. In the afternoon of 10th feb, 2020, Rinpoche will address faculty and staff members of the institute on the Preservation and Promotion of Tibetan Culture and on 11th feb, 2020, Rinpoche will chair a meeting on Curriculum and Syllabus for MA Tibetan Studies, affiliated to Bangalore university with the teaching faculty of Tibetan department
