AUGUST EVENTS ( 3rd Week)

August 6, 2016 Choekhor Duechen is celebrated at the Institute.
According to Tibetan calendar, on the 15th day of the 4th Tibetan lunar month, Buddha attained Enlightenment but remained silent for the next seven weeks. Then at the request of Lord Brahma, Buddha gave His First Teaching or Sermon. It was on the Four Noble Truth. This Day was celebrated at the Institute with Sangsol or Incense Offering ceremony in the morning and a Tsog or Grand Offering Prayer gathering in the evening.

August 8, 2016 Clubs Activities
15 Clubs (see list) have been approved and club In-charges appointed. With the start of the new Academic session all students will enrol in one of these clubs. Club activities will function as per Mission and Action Plan. These will be new opportunities to engage students in activities of fun and passion.

August 11, 2016 Formal Appointment of Student Council for 2016-2017
A special assembly was convened on Thursday, August 11, 2016. The new members of the Student Council were recognised and formally appointed at this Assembly. The Principal presented the members ceremonial scarfs as per tradition. This is to wish the Student Council the very best in their endeavour and leadership. The following members comprise the Student Council – 2016-2017

August 15. 2016 70th Independence Day of India celebrated
Apart from hosting the National tricolours at the main gate and the Academic Building, the Student Council organised a day long football tournament among Tibetan Youth groups attending various colleges in the Bangalore and Mysore vicinities. A tambola session after dinner ended the day in fun and frolic.

August 17, 2016 Members of 16th Parliament – in – Exile visit the Institute
dli_mpMP Migyur Dorjee and MP Kunchok Yangphel, recently elected member of the 16th parliament visited the institute on August 17 as part of the Official tour of South India. They addressed a joint session of all students and faculty as per from official program. They were extended a warm welcome and honoured with traditional scarf for being new MPs. Each spoke for about half an hour on issues related to the work of the 16th Parliament. MP Kunchok Yangphel explained various plans and changes to be brought about by the 16th Parliament. The talk ended with a question and answers session.
After a lunch with the management, they toured the campus before leaving for Bangalore.

August 15 – 21, 2016 Sports and Games activities for Freshers

Football Tournament
On the 15thAugust, a boy’s football league began. It was organised by Mr. Rigsang assisted by sports in charge of the Student Council, Mr. Phurbu Tsering The first match was played between BCom 3rd year and the Ladakh team. The second match was between BA 1st year and 2nd year team. The girls football league will begin from Friday, the 26th August 2016. The final match of boy’s football league will also be on Friday, the 26th August 2016.

Basketball and Badminton Tournament
dli_ basketA basketball and badminton tournament were organised by the Students Council. The basketball tournament commenced on the 16th August 2016 and the badminton on 17th August. BA won the girls’ basketball tournament, 1st year defeating the senior Chinese Department students. The boy’s basketball was won by BCA combined with Chinese Department 1st year. And Tenzin Dolma, BA 1st year won the girls’ badminton singles and BA 1st year again won the girls’ double. The boy’s badminton single was won by Tsering Dhondup BA 1st year, also the doubles badminton was won by BA 1st year Team.

Fresher’s Party
dli_fresherThe Students Council organized the Fresher’s party on Saturday, 20th August , 2016. The evening function commenced at 7:30 pm with a welcome speech by the current Student Council President, Mr Sonam Palden. The Vice President. Mr. Ngewang Choedar was the Master of the Ceremony. The first item of the evening was a song by DLIHE band led by Mr. Gonpo Dhundup. There were four dance performances by seniors and two song performances by the faculty band. And this year the lucky charm of the DLIHE went to Mr. Ngawang Tsepak BA 1st year. The event concluded with selection of Mr and Miss Fresher based on modelling done by 18 freshmen and women. 2016-2017 Miss Fresher was won by the Miss. Tenzin Kunsang, BA 1st and Mr fresher was won by Mr. Karma Nyima, BA Tibetan.
