The 59th annual convocation of Bangalore University, held on September 10, 2024, celebrated the accomplishments of 31,383 graduates. Among them were seven PhD scholars from the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education (DLIHE), who received their doctoral degrees in Tibetan Studies. Of these scholars, five—Tsewang Topla, Lobsang Nyendak, Lobsang Ngodup, Kunchok, and Sonam Gyaltsen—were present to accept their degrees in person.
In addition, 61 students from DLIHE earned their Bachelor degrees across various fields: 29 in BA, 12 in BBA, 11 in B.Com, and 9 in BCA.
The convocation also honored 168 students with gold medals and recognized a wide range of academic achievements: 21,853 graduates achieved distinction, 5,861 secured first class, 1,289 earned second class, and 603 passed without additional classification.
UGC Vice-Chairman Deepak Kumar Srivastava delivered the convocation address, with Higher Education Minister Dr. MC Sudhakar also in attendance. This year, a total of 140 PhD degrees were awarded, alongside the degrees for the seven DLIHE scholars.
The event highlighted the commitment of both DLIHE and Bangalore University to celebrating academic excellence and honoring the dedication of their students. The Principal of DLIHE and South Representative of CTA, Mr. Jigme Tsultrim, was present to support and encourage the graduates.
