After much concerted preparations, members of the Dalai Lama Institute for Higher Education celebrated the occasion of their 7th Institute Day on February 16, 2016. Sri Dr. G. Parameshwar, the Honorable Minister for Home, Government of Karnataka, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Besides, the Institute was proud to have Mr. TsewangYeshi, the President of Tibetan Children’s Village, Dharamsala and Mr. Karma Damdul, the Chief Representative, South Zone, Central Tibetan Administration as the day’s guests of honor. Although the day was marked by a function in the morning, cultural performances and sumptuous meals, the generous contribution of rupees 10 lacs to develop the institute library promised by the chief guest was the highlight of the day.
The Principal of the institute, Dr. B. Tsering, in her welcome speech, thanked the Chief guest for his ceaseless support for the institute. Before concluding her speech, she made an appeal to him to make possible some provision of water supply to the institute from the Karnataka state government as the institute suffers great scarcity of water.
Both the guests of honor, Mr. TsewangYeshi and Mr. Karma Damdul, in their address to the gathering continued with their expression of gratitude towards the chief guest, and emphasized on the visions of His Holiness for the Tibetan youth in exile and the importance of education for them.
The function continued with cultural performances, prize distribution for the students who have earned Merit Scholarship, offering of appreciation for the staff members who continue to serve the institute post retirement and introduction of new staff members. Special meals were served throughout the day. As the institute will produce it’s first batch of graduates this year since the inception of regular degree programs under the Outreach Program of University of Mysore, the students and the staff members alike are certain to remember this as an eventful day.
