9TH TIBETAN COLLEGE STUDENTS’ CONFERENCE (FEBRUARY 9-14, 2015)

9th TCSC InaugurationThe 9th Tibetan college students’ conference was held at the Dalai Lama Institution for Higher Education from 9th to 14th February, 2015 Over 80 students from 22 colleges and universities attended the conference. The Institute Student Council took the responsibility in organizing the conference.

The Conference began with simple introductory session presided over by Dr. B. Tsering, Principal of the Institute. The Formal Opening Function was graced by Prof. K. S. Rangappa, Vice Chancellor of UNIVERSITY of MYSORE, Kasur Jetsun Pema la. and Ku-ngo Jigme Jungney, MP while the Closing Function was presided by Ku-ngo Ngodup Tsering, Kalon for Education and Mr. Tsewang Yeshi, President, TCV. The five day conference included workshops by Mrs. Tsering Tsomo, Executive Director of TCHRD on Human rights in the world- with special focus on Tibet and Chin and by Envision Group led by Mrs. Youdon Augatsang on Self-exploration and Career Planning and on Effective Presentation Skills.

The members of the conference then had the opportunity to interact closely with Mr. Penpa Tsering, Speaker, (Tibetan Parliament) who gave a formal talk on Middle-Way Approach. They also had heart to heart sessions with Mr. Ngodup Tsering, Education minister, CTA and Mr. Tsewang Yeshi, President, TCV. Mr. Ngodup Tserin’s formal talk focused on CTA’s Perspectives on Education and its future plans on Education and Mr. Tsewang Yeshi’s address was on the responsibilities of Tibetan college students.

Conference members also had the opportunity to submit their suggestions and concerns to the guest speakers – There was also much sharing and learning as each group was required to give presentations at the conference. In all it was good exposure and experience for all. Of course it was in the middle of the semester examinations.
